What is it?

Pupil Premium funding is additional funding given to schools so that we can support our disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between these children and their peers by drawing on evidence of effective practice.

Funding is based on children who have registered for a free school meal at any point in the last 6 years (called the Ever6 count), children that have been in care for more than six months and children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.

How much do we receive?

For this academic year we have been allocated £201,735 of pupil premium. 

The percentage of our pupils known to be eligible for free school meals this academic year is: 72% (based on the ever6 count) 

The national percentage is 26.7% (Primary).

How does it work?

Each school can decide how to spend the pupil premium.

Evidence suggests that pupil premium spending is most effective when schools use a tiered approach, targeting spending across 3 areas, with a particular focus on teaching.

1. Teaching

Investing in high-quality teaching, for example:

• training and professional development for teachers
• recruitment and retention
• support for teachers early in their careers

2. Targeted academic support

Additional support for some pupils focused on their specific needs, for example:

• one-to-one tuition
• small group tuition
• speech and language therapy

3. Wider approaches

Support for non-academic issues that impact success in school, such as attendance, behaviour and social and emotional challenges. For example:

• school breakfast clubs
• counselling to support emotional health and wellbeing
• help with the cost of educational trips or visits

2023 - 2024

Every school also receives RECOVERY PREMIUM FUNDING to help children close the gaps linked to the ongoing impact from the pandemic.
