EARLY YEARS PUPIL PREMIUM (EYPP)

What is EYPP?

The EYPP is funding allocated to Early Years settings and Nursery Schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families. Funding is means tested and allocated upon parents / care givers meeting criteria set out by the government. For example - parents / carers in receipt of certain benefits may be eligible, these can change on a regular basis, unlike the school pupil premium, which stays with a child for 6 years once allocated. We are allocated the equivalent to £300 annually however the pupils eligible do change.

Why has it been introduced?

The Government believes that EYPP, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children of parents /care givers who are in receipt of certain benefits and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

Whilst Early Years settings are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, we are required to show how we have used the Early Years Pupil Premium Funds allocated to us.

How will EYPP funds be spent?

Data analysis of this year’s EYPP baseline scores demonstrate that our current EYPP children do less well in the following areas: Speaking, health and self-care, understanding, self-confidence, listening, being imaginative and technology.  It has been agreed that the focus for this year’s cohort will be to support the progress of children in these key areas. This work will take the form of enrichment opportunities through the provision of classroom opportunities to develop children’s experiences and support the development of their skills in speaking and understanding. We have identified our EYPP children’s individual barriers to learning and identified the need for children to develop self-help and self-regulation skills and In addition to this we recognise that pupils who are disadvantaged require a higher level of child / adult interaction in order to make the same/ better progress as their peers. We have responded to this by using the funding to ensure a high staff to pupil ratio. We will use it to support disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils to ensure that at least the expected progress is achieved to diminish the difference with national non EYPP data. To ensure that early year’s pupil premium children make good progress in the speaking, understanding and people and communities strand of the curriculum.

How we spent EYPP funding in the autumn term

The EYPP funds received during the academic term September 2017- December 2018 was spent in the following way:

Family getting ready for nursery group (I per week, 1 Teacher, 1 hours per week = 7 hrs @ £50= £350.00)

Nurture support, TA to support promoting independence and health and self-care. 15 hours per week at £9.17 per hour = £137 per week 14 weeks = £1,925

Total budgeted £2062

How we will spend EYPP funding in the spring term

Nurture support, TA to support small intervention groups. 15 hours per week at £9.17 per hour = £137 per week 14 weeks = £1,925

Nursery teacher to have non-contact time for training and data analysis-set new target groups 1 hour a week = 10 weeks £710.00

Target groups for reading, writing and maths with a HLTA. 30 minutes a week=10 weeks £ 702

We also use the EYPP to part fund the family resource worker, offering emotional and well-being support to pupils at risk of falling behind. We use funding for extended services to offer guidance and support-the behaviour support team and educational psychologist. We have two extra TA’s to keep ratios well below the national guidance of 1:13.
