🧍‍♀️ RE LEAD = MRS MOON

INTENT:  

At Cotmanhay Infants we have designed our RE curriculum with the aim that our pupils will become resilient, accepting, mindful and inquisitive learners. 

We follow the Derbyshire and Derby City Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2020-2025) It provides the legal framework for RE in line with national guidance. 

The curriculum for RE will: 

• Enable pupils to develop religious literacy and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews. 
• Promote equality and understanding of British values and ensure pupils are prepared for life in modern Britain. 
• Encourage pupils to see RE as an exciting subject that supports their understanding of what it means to live in our community and the wider world and to promote harmony and good relations. 
• Inspire creative learning through links with other subjects, building on prior learning and allowing for progression of skills. 

IMPLEMENTATION :

• Planning is completed weekly and half-termly in year group teams using knowledge of children, expectations, skills progression and wider opportunities. 
• We have short-term, medium term and long-term plans to ensure sequence and building on knowledge and skills. 
• We have a ‘Creative Curriculum’ which is mostly topic-based learning using overarching questions with an open-ended structure. 
• Topics are based on children’s interests to inspire and based on experiences they may not have to enrich. 
• We have good quality resources. 
• We ensure ongoing assessment of children’s learning. 
• There is a balance of adult-led and child-led learning. 
• CPD supports teacher knowledge and expertise in subject areas which is shared with all staff. 
• We use trip / visitors and other opportunities to enhance the learning experience. 
• A topic newsletter letter is sent home for parents / carers so children can be supported at home. This includes specific vocabulary with definitions. 

IMPACT 

We measure the impact of our curriculum through: 

• Outcomes  
• Progress made from starting points 
• Conversations with children that demonstrate they know, can do and remember more than they did before 
• Monitoring the work children do and their response to the learning 
• Monitoring the impact on children’s health and well-being 
• Recording aspirations and supporting them through school ethos and the RE scheme
