Online Safety

A short summary

At Cotmanhay Infant & Nursery School we make Online Safety a year-round priority. It is taught through our PSHE and Computing curriculum and reinforced in assemblies, including Safer Internet Day every February.

In school we use a Derbyshire filtering system, supervise all online activities, and require staff, pupils and parents to follow our Acceptable Use and mobile devices policies. If a child sees anything online that worries them, they are taught to switch the screen off and tell an adult straight away.

For more information or to see our policies, please contact the computing lead, Mrs Meer, or email info@cotmanhay-inf.derbyshire.sch.uk.

Overview

Online Safety is integral to school life. We teach children how to stay safe online through Computing and PSHE lessons, assemblies and workshops. Our approach is preventative, practical and age appropriate, so pupils learn how to behave safely and responsibly online.

In school - what we do?

· Derbyshire-managed filtering and monitoring systems are in place on all school devices.

· Online Safety is embedded in our curriculum and revisited throughout the year.

· All apps and websites are shown to pupils before use and children are supervised when using them.

· Children follow class Acceptable Use Rules and know to switch off the screen and tell an adult if they see something worrying.

· Mobile devices may only be used under adult supervision and pupils are not allowed to bring personal devices onto school premises. (See our mobile phones policy.)

· Photographs taken at school are stored on the secure school network and are not kept on personal devices.

· All staff sign the Acceptable Use Policy and parents sign agreements about the use of images and school technology.

If you would like to read any of our safeguarding or Online Safety policies, please ask the school office or contact the computing lead.

Reporting concerns

· Pupil guidance: switch off the screen and tell a trusted adult immediately.

We say “Stop, Close, Tell” ·

Parent/staff concerns: contact the school office or email info@cotmanhay-inf.derbyshire.sch.uk and we will respond promptly.

· Serious safeguarding concerns will be handled under the school’s safeguarding procedures and referred to the appropriate authorities when necessary.

Monitoring and review

· We use the 360 Self Review tool to evaluate and improve our Online Safety provision.

· Policies and practice are reviewed regularly and updated as required.

Advice for parents

· Talk regularly with your child about what they do online and who they talk to.

· Use privacy settings and parental controls on apps, consoles and home routers.

· Agree simple rules together for screen time, downloads and sharing images.

· Encourage children to tell you straight away about anything that upsets or confuses them online.

· Check age ratings for apps and sites and supervise younger children.

· Keep devices in communal family areas for younger pupils.
